A mid-life employment crisis: How COVID-19 will affect the job prospects of older workers

Tuesday 18 August 2020 | 12.00 – 12.45pm

In partnership with Centre for Ageing Better, we published a new report warning of the risk of long-term unemployment for older workers. The number of older workers seeking unemployment related benefits doubled during the lockdown, and there is a risk of further job losses as the furlough scheme is unwound and as some sectors struggle to recover.

The event discussed the challenges facing older workers after Covid-19 and the changes that need to happen if we’re to avoid a long-term unemployment crisis among over 50s.

Speakers include:

  • Kim Chaplain, associate director for work, Centre for Ageing Better
  • Stephen Evans, chief executive, Learning and Work Institute
