Founded in 1992, Adult Learners’ Week, and now Festival of Learning, promotes the achievements of the achievements of adult learners and inspires other to join in. Nearly 2000 learners, tutors, projects and employers have been recognised through annual Festival of Learning Awards which celebrate the best of adult learning in its forms.

This special milestone is being marked by an exclusive reception at CityLit, a leading adult education college in central London, attended by inspiring adult learners; representatives from education, charities and business; and HRH Princess Royal, Patron of Learning and Work Institute.

Stephen Evans, chief executive at Learning and Work Institute said,
“Festival of Learning reminds us of the power of learning to change the way we see ourselves. One of the most common things our adult learning award winners say to us is that never thought they would achieve what they have. Many adults committing to learning overcome barriers and make personal sacrifices. But the rewards are always worth it, and Festival of Learning is all about providing a platform to tell those stories and inspire others to take that step back in to learning. “Reaching this important milestone demonstrates the continuing importance of adult learning in society, but also the continuing need to make the case for investment from individuals and employers, as well as national and local governments. ”Learning and Work Institute is proud to co-ordinate Festival of Learning. It is always a privilege to meet learners through the awards process and promote their inspiring stories. Today, I’d like to thank all of our partner organisations who have helped make Adult Learners’ Week and Festival of Learning a success over the last 25 years.” “Britain must become a lifelong learning society. This is fundamental to the growth and resilience of our economy and for strong and inclusive communities. “Over the next 25 years, we want to grow Festival of Learning so that even more adults see the opportunities in life and work that can be unlocked through learning. Learning and Work Institute’s job is to make sure that those opportunities are accessible for people at every age and stage of their lives.”
