Labour market analysis
We produce analysis of the latest labour market statistics, setting out what they mean for the world of work with an emphasis on people who face disadvantage.
Our business is to look at what works and what doesn’t in learning, skills and employment, and we use statistical analysis as part of this.
This involves producing our own data such as the Adult participation in learning survey, analysis of official releases such as monthly labour and employment statistics, and combining government statistics with our original findings as we did in the Youth Opportunity Index.

Our survey series, which began in 1996, provides a unique overview of how many adults take part in learning, their reasons for doing so or not doing so, and how this varies by group and area.
Our Youth Opportunity Index gives a detailed portrait of the opportunities and challenges for every young person broken down by local education authority. It has revealed the intra-regional differences in England as well as regional ones.
