Citizens’ Curriculum
During 2023 and 2024, Learning and Work Institute is working with Welsh Government and a range of partners on an exciting project to pilot a Citizens’ Curriculum for Wales. This follows a public commitment to a Second Chance Nation made by the Minister for Education Jeremy Miles MS at the 2022 Adult Learning Conference.

Adult Learning Wales Citizens’ Curriculum: Peace Education in Adult Learning
In a world often marred by conflict and discord, the significance of peace education cannot be overstated, and its importance extends well into adulthood. The need for peace education in adult learning has become increasingly clear as societies grapple with complex global challenges. This blog delves into the reasons why peace education is an unspoken necessity for adult learners and how it can foster positive change on personal, interpersonal and societal levels.

OASIS Citizens’ Curriculum: Language Education and a warm Welsh welcome
What’s the best way to teach language to newcomers in Wales? And how can teachers best be supported to work with refugees and asylum seekers, who may be learning a language while suffering from trauma and navigating the hostile environment created by the UK government? These are the questions we wanted to investigate with our Citizens’ Curriculum project, a partnership between Oasis, the University of South Wales, and Adult Learning Wales.

Evaluation of Supported Employment Coach pilot
The overall aim of the pilot is to improve outcomes for young people with a moderate to severe learning disability/difficulty (LDD) and/or autism, by increasing the number who progress in to paid employment or apprenticeships.

Evaluation of the In-Work Support Service
In June 2022, the Welsh Government appointed Learning and Work Institute to evaluate the latest phase of their In-Work Support Service (IWS). The evaluation started in July 2022 and was completed in October 2022. It follows an initial evaluation of IWS published in April 2019. The objectives were to tackle poverty and social exclusion through sustainable employment in parts of North and South Wales.
