Youth Employment Service (YES) North East was a collaboration between Youth Futures Foundation (YFF) and North East Autism Society. The programme was designed to support neurodiverse people aged between 18 and 24 living in Tyne and Wear to move into, or further towards, employment and education.

L&W carried out an independent evaluation of Youth Employment Service North East on behalf of YFF. Our research aimed to understand which elements of the model were most effective in driving education, employment, and training outcomes for the target group.

We found the programme helped more than half of participants into employment, education or volunteering / work experience. Young people’s confidence and wellbeing also increased over the length of the programme. However, consideration is needed on how future programmes can engage and recruit eligible participants on a larger scale; and develop strong links with employers to build pathways to employment.
