Inspired by a key recommendation from the Inquiry into the Future for Lifelong Learning, L&W’s Citizens’ Curriculum aims to create locally relevant learning opportunities aimed at enhancing people’s control over their own lives.
Tested and developed in a series of pilot projects in England and Wales, and inspiring further projects across Europe, the Citizens’ Curriculum is an approach to adult learning which emphasises:
- Locally led learning provision, responding to real-life opportunities and challenges in communities.
- Participatory learning methods, where learners directly shape the focus and content of learning.
- Developing civic, health, financial and digital capabilities, underpinned by essential skills like literacy, numeracy and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).
The Citizens’ Curriculum helps engage adults by making learning relevant, supporting them to develop the skills and capabilities needed for life and for work today.
